Emma Marsden is a professor of second language education at the University of York. At the start of her career, she taught French and Spanish as foreign languages in an 11-18 school. Since 2000 she has undertaken published research into the learning and teaching of foreign languages. She is Journal Editor of Language Learning and co-author of Second Language Learning Theories. Emma has advised on foreign language education policy and practice in England. She directs the National Centre for Excellence for Language Pedagogy, OASIS (an open database of accessible summaries of research), and IRIS (a repository of materials and data for language learning research).
