Karine Buffon

Head of MFL,

Karine Buffon has been the Head of the MFL department at Jo Richardson community School since September 2010. Since Karine started teaching she has always been fully passionate about raising standards and developing a range of teaching and learning strategies in order to give every child a chance to reach their full potential and compete favourably with other schools in the Barking and Dagenham Borough. Karine has achieved an NPQML through a two-year middle leaders course (Teaching Leaders, now known as Ambition School Leadership) and has won the Pearson Prize for Pupils’ Impact in 2017. Karine has also recently been accredited as an SSATT Lead Practitioner and a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE).

  • Overcoming the challenge of low levels of MFL attainment with a targetted impact strategy to support underachieving pupils expected to achieve C grade or less
  • Utilising a research based approach to improve attainment through targeted interventions for smaller groups, collaborative sessions where pupils shared revision techniques and after school clubs which allowed an opportunity for immediate feedback
  • Ensuring all department teachers monitored and reviewed progress of target pupils on a weekly basis
  • Recognising the outcomes of the programme with the percentage of pupils gaining A* – C in GCSE French raising from 39% to 86%, resulting in the best MFL results in the borough
  • Utilising a high result base to enhance pupil engagement and support more pupils from year 7 onwards to have a bigger impact at KS4
